Results of Rust Patrol against competitors from a 47 day side-by-side test using 5% salt fog (per ASTM B117) on 1010 carbon steel.

What is ASTM B117?

ASTM B117 is a popular standardized test showing corrosion resistance of metals. ASTM B117 was the first internationally recognized standard test for salt spray. The purpose of ASTM B117 (or of the salt spray) is to create a harsh environment for metals that will accelerate the corrosion process. A superior corrosion prevention coating will allow the metal to withstand corrosion in the test chamber for longer.
